Toshio Akiyama, MD

Toshio Akiyama, MD, is a Professor Emeritus of Medicine at the University of Rochester whose career has centered on cardiac electrophysiology and arrhythmias. In the University of Rochester’s cardiology history, he is noted for helping expand the institution’s work in electrocardiography and electrophysiology in the 1970s and for returning after advanced electrophysiology training in Chicago with Harry Fozzard to serve in a leadership role in Rochester’s electrophysiology program. He also contributed to major arrhythmia research, including publications from the AFFIRM trial and later work on QT-interval criteria.
