John E Brewer, MD

John Brewer, MD, is a Buffalo family physician whose work has focused on community-based care for medically underserved patients. The University of Rochester notes that he earned his medical degree there in 1974, completed a family medicine residency at Hunterdon Medical Center in 1977, and spent parts of his early career providing care in Nigeria, Appalachia, Michigan, and Buffalo, with a sustained interest in urban poverty, refugee health, and health disparities.

Official alumni profiles also describe him as a longtime teacher and clinical leader in family medicine. Denison University says Brewer served on the University at Buffalo faculty, held leadership roles including chief of family medicine at Kaleida Health and medical director of the Upper Westside and Niagara Family Health Centers, and continued service-oriented work through annual trips to Haiti. Rochester later recognized that commitment with its Alumni Humanitarian Award.
