Biography
Timothy E. Quill, MD, is Professor Emeritus at the University of Rochester Medical Center, with appointments spanning medicine, psychiatry, medical humanities, and nursing. A Rochester-trained internist, he founded URMC’s Palliative Care Program, later served as president of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and has written extensively on palliative and end-of-life care, including more than 200 peer-reviewed articles. He was also the lead physician plaintiff in Quill v. Vacco, the 1997 U.S. Supreme Court case concerning physician-assisted death.
