He earned his medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, completed internal medicine residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and pursued geriatrics training at Duke University Medical Center; he is board certified in geriatric medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
