Biography
Maria Patricia Rivera, MD, is a pulmonary and critical care physician at UR Medicine, where she serves as division chief and the C. Jane Davis & C. Robert Davis Distinguished Professor in Pulmonary Medicine. Her work focuses on lung cancer screening, diagnosis, staging, and treatment complications; she trained in internal medicine at North Shore University Hospital and in pulmonary disease at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Before joining Rochester, she held faculty and leadership roles at UNC, and in 2023 she became president of the American Thoracic Society, the first Latino woman to lead the organization.
