Matthew Donahue, MD, is an internal medicine physician and public health physician who is currently Iowa’s State Epidemiologist and Deputy Medical Director for the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services. He earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center, and later trained through the CDC’s Epidemic Intelligence Service, with outbreak-response work spanning COVID-19, EVALI surveillance, polio response in Ghana, and global health work in Peru and South Africa.
