Steven L. Barnett, M.D

Steven Barnett, MD, is a Rochester family physician and University of Rochester Medical Center faculty member whose work centers on health care access and health research for Deaf American Sign Language users and people with hearing loss. At UR, he serves in Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences and leads the National Center for Deaf Health Research, a community-engaged program focused on reducing long-standing gaps in health knowledge and care.

He earned his MD from New Jersey Medical School, completed family medicine residency training at St. Mary's Hospital and Medical Center of Madison, and came to Rochester for a family medicine fellowship at Highland Hospital. Barnett has also been involved in training and mentorship for Deaf and hard-of-hearing scholars through Rochester's Bridges to the Doctorate program.
