Richard Pretorius, MD, MPH

Richard Pretorius, MD, MPH, is a family physician in Irving, New York with a long background in primary care, geriatrics, and academic medicine. Before later practice work in New York, he served as professor and chair of family medicine at Wright State University’s Boonshoft School of Medicine, where he later became assistant dean for quality and primary care research. Wright State also notes that he previously held family medicine faculty leadership roles at SUNY Buffalo and spent more than a decade in clinical and teaching appointments at the University of Iowa.

He earned his MD from the University of Virginia, an MPH from the Medical College of Wisconsin, and completed residency training in family medicine at Case Western Reserve University. His published work includes articles on medication-related harms in older adults and geriatric home assessment in medical education, reflecting sustained interests in geriatrics, patient safety, and physician training.
